Domestic and international visitors to and within Jackson County spent $468 million in 2023, an increase of 3.4 percent from 2022. The data comes from an annual study commissioned by VisitNC, a unit of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.

Highlanders open fall sports season with volleyball match

The Lady Highlanders varsity volleyball team fell 3-1 against the Smoky Mountain Lady Mustangs in their inaugural game of the 2024 season Monday, in what coach Kaitlyn Bishop said was a game where the Lady Highlanders “struggled to get into a rhythm.

Two graduates from the Highlands Cashiers Hospital’s CNA training program – Reese Schmitt and Jackson Dunn – are now headed off to Galen Nursing College, both motivated by personal reasons from their pasts.
