The Village Green’s annual Gobble on The Green 5K race is kicking off again this Thanksgiving and registration is officially open for those that wish to participate in the festive holiday event, according to Shelby Ward, community event and volunteer coordinator for The Village Green.

“It’s a good day, y’all,” said Hilary Wilkes, the Highlands representative to the Macon County school board, on a cool morning last Wednesday. She and other school officials were happy to see groundbreaking on land that will, in a year’s time, be new middle school and Pre-K classrooms.

Early voting is taking off in both Jackson and Macon counties and it looks like the turnout is on track to be even with, or potentially better, than the 2020 election’s numbers, according to Amanda Allen, elections director for Jackson County Board of Elections. “The numbers look great.

Motorists traveling between Highlands and Dillard, Georgia will be taking an alternate route for the foreseeable future following the closure of NC106 on Saturday.
