Brookings Anglers has had a few weeks in their new location nestled on Cashiers Lake behind Cornucopia. The fly tying outdoor shop officially opened their Blue Line Bar last week. Blue Line Bar is a small wine and beer corner of the store with a handful of local taps and other domestic choices.

Heritage Apple Day set for Saturday

As the plateau wakes from its winter slumber, a community staple is returning to spread literal fruits of labor. The Cashiers Historical Society’s annual Heritage Apple Day is returning Saturday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cashiers Community Center near Boys and Girls Club.

A flatbed truck backed up to Fishes & Loaves temporary shelter Monday, delivering around 3,000 items, or an estimated ton and a half, of supplies from Summit Charter School.

Highlands board hears capital requests at retreat

The Highlands Board of Commissioners sat down last week for the first Town Retreat of the 2024 calendar to hear capital requests for the upcoming fiscal year. The town will begin holding budget workshops April 11. Despite rising costs, Mayor Pat Taylor encouraged proactivity for the town.

A champion for animals

Gary Maddox, the late president of Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society, has died at 76, leaving behind a legacy of responsible leadership. Maddox passed away Feb. 26. His celebration of life is Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m.
