Runners needed for Gobble on the Green 5K

The Village Green’s annual Gobble on The Green 5K race is kicking off again this Thanksgiving and registration is officially open for those that wish to participate in the festive holiday event, according to Shelby Ward, community event and volunteer coordinator for The Village Green.

New era at Highlands School

“It’s a good day, y’all,” said Hilary Wilkes, the Highlands representative to the Macon County school board, on a cool morning last Wednesday. She and other school officials were happy to see groundbreaking on land that will, in a year’s time, be new middle school and Pre-K classrooms.

Graduating seniors from schools across the region gathered at the Boys and Girls Club at the Plateau for this year’s Thrive 101 seminar to learn essential life skills before embarking on their journeys into adulthood, which according to Joy Clark, Board Chair for BGCP, is essential for them.

Motorists traveling between Highlands and Dillard, Georgia will be taking an alternate route for the foreseeable future following the closure of NC106 on Saturday.

Late leaf season still draws visitors

Despite Hurricane Helene and warmer weather stretching into October, Franklin and most of Macon County could experience a late but colorful leaf season. Dr.

Gorges State Park remains closed for the foreseeable future as it continues to assess the damage brought in by the storm from Hurricane Helene. An expected re-opening is still unknown, according to Kris Anne Bonifacio, public information officer for North Carolina State Parks.
