A piece of legislation in Raleigh brought a sigh of relief for drivers in Highlands this week. North Carolina House Bill 593, entitled “Restricting truck length in the Cullasaja Gorge” was signed into law by Gov. Roy Cooper.

Playground fundraising effort underway

A new, much bigger community playground for the Town of Highlands will be all-inclusive for those with disabilities – once the commissioners secure funding for it, hopefully by later this year. The project will cost $1.

Crowds fill Fourth of July events

While the fireworks were still hours away, people flooded to The Village Green of Cashiers on Wednesday, July 3 for the chance to enjoy live music, food and community before the ceremonial explosions in the sky began at night. The sun beat down all afternoon and into the evening.

The Cashiers Historical Society hosted its annual Jan Wyatt Symposium last week. The symposium  provides a deep dive on a relevant Cashiers topic as selected by the Cashiers Historical Society. CHS’s theme this year related to the history of tourism to the area.
