CLE to host wine expert Friday

Renowned wine connoisseur, award winning journalist and entrepreneur Cathy Huyghe is visiting the Center for Life Enrichment tomorrow to teach Highlanders the differences in Pinot, wine grapes. Huyghe got her start in the wine industry by taking part in a program called 365 Days of Wine.

Los Vaqueros now open in Highlands

Los Vaqueros, a new traditional Mexican restaurant, is now open for residents in the Highlands area. It has always been a dream for owner Ivan Soto to open his own restaurant. “I have been in the restaurant business for about 12 years,” Soto said. “I started as a bus boy and worked my way up.

Macon and Jackson County both saw an uptick in population on the 2020 Census, but the town of Highlands has stayed about the same. The population of Highlands increased by about 60 people, from 920 to 984 in this years’ census.

On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older.

Town takes no action on short term rentals

After a five-hour long meeting that stretched over two days, the Town of Highlands Board of Commissioners reached a verbal consensus that they would start enforcing current zoning laws that will not allow short term rentals in R-1 Zoning.

Playhouse opens Curtains Up!

Written as a love letter to the Town of Highlands, the Highlands Playhouse is set to open Curtains Up!, created by the Playhouse’s artistic team, Marshall Carby and Jimmy Lewis. “We really wanted to focus on Highlands,” Carby said.

Rotary Twilight 5K canceled due to weather

Though there were plenty of runners lined up to begin the Twilight 5K on Saturday, bad weather caused organizer Derek Taylor to call the race off. Even with rain coming down slower, Taylor said the lightening in the area and the fear of worsening rain were the main concerns.

In 1997, Summit Charter School had students in classroom’s learning about their seven virtues. Fast forward 25 years and Head of School Kurk Pusch said they are still paying homage to the founding members by reciting the seven virtues every day.
