Families making plans to buy a Christmas tree in the Cashiers area this year will be sad to hear that one tree farm has made the tough choice to close for the season due to a tree shortage.

Half-Mile Farm hosts Fireside Chat

On Saturday, Half-Mile Farm hosted a Fireside Chat with food author John T. Edge and his wife, artist Blair Hobbs. Residents of Half-Mile Farm were able to sit around the fire and talk with Edge and Hobbs about life, love, marriage, art, food and life in Oxford, Miss.

Hudson Library to host adult mental health series

The Hudson Library has partnered with Vaya Health Foundation to bring an Adult Mental Health series to the library. Librarian Carlyn Morenus said one of the main priorities the library system promotes is mental health.

Atlanta-based author sets new novel in Highlands

Atlanta-based high school English teacher and author Christopher Swann has set his newest novel right here on the Plateau. Swann is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School in Virginia and earned his Ph.D. in creative writing from Georgia State University.

2,996 plus 13 steps were walked by the Highlands Fire Department, Highlands Police Department and more than 100 locals in honor of the first responders, active duty and veterans that lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Starting at Kelsey Hutchinson Park, the group walked up Main Street at 8:46 a.m.

Highlands sees large amount of rainfall in August

In August, Highlands saw a significant increase in rainfall because of Tropical Storms Fred and Ida. The usual average rainfall in Highlands is 6.6 inches, but in August of this year, Highlands saw 20.05 inches of rain.
