Sarah Lucille Ray Sloan joined her beloved husband, Wiley G. Sloan, in heaven on Friday, November 18, 2022. The fourth of six children born to Rev. Albert and Mrs. Alouise Ray, Sarah was a lifelong Methodist, and she and Wiley built their lives around their church and community endeavors.

Linda Pauline Calloway James

Linda Pauline Calloway James, age 81, of Scaly Mountain, passed away on Nov. 14, 2022. She was born the daughter of the late Paul Leon Calloway and the late Agnes Lenora Raby Calloway on Dec.13, 1940. She was the widow of the late Robert “Bob” Willis James.

Doris E. Bryson Hicks

Doris E. Bryson Hicks, 88, of Highlands, N. C. passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022.  She was born April 12, 1934 in Macon County,  to the late James Lawrence Bryson and Ellie Lazelle Talley Bryson. A graveside service will be held at Clear Creek Community Cemetery, Tuesday Nov. 22, 2022 at 2 p.m.

Virgie Leo Keener

Virgie Leo Keener, 93 of Highlands passed away Wednesday Nov. 9, 2022. She was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Macon County to the late Carl Keener and Helen Smith Keener.

Alice Ruth McManuels

Alice Ruth McManuels, 72, of Sky Valley, GA passed Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, peacefully at home with her beloved daughter and pets. Born in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ammon Rufus McManuels and Mary Elizabeth McManuels and wife of the late Jerry Lamar Johnson.

Laure Swanner Walsh

Laure Swanner Walsh, 64, passed away Oct. 28, 2022, at her Scaly Mountain home. She was preceded by her husband of 28 years, James Walsh Sr. and will be dearly missed by her two loving children, Ali Mae Walsh and James Walsh Jr.

Jessie Harbison Sheldon

Jessie Harbison Sheldon died Tuesday, October 18, 2022 following a short hospitalization from a head injury due to a fall. She was 79. Jessie was born September 4, 1943 in Highlands, North Carolina. She was the youngest daughter of Thomas Cobb Harbison and Elizabeth Catherine Rice Harbison.

Helen Brandt Moore

Helen Brandt Moore, 104, of Cashiers, passed peacefully at home to eternal rest on Oct. 27, 2022. Her husband of over 70 years, John Clark Moore, Jr., pre-deceased her on January 16, 2018. Helen was a dear wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Christopher Nathan Alley

Christopher Nathan Alley, 81, peacefully ended his long battle with Alzheimer’s at his home in Highlands on October 18, 2022 with his wife, daughters, and cherished kitties by his side. Chris was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on September 2, 1941. Shortly after his birth, his family moved south.
