Looking back at 2024: Helene dominates headlines

As we step into a New Year, everyone is wondering what 2025 might bring for Highlands and Cashiers. While there is no way to predict the future, one thing is certain – 2024 will not soon be forgotten. He is a look back at the biggest stories from the past year.

Last week, Highlands Police Department had the privilege of taking 39 kids shopping for Christmas and the Holidays. Each year, in cooperation with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office “Shop With A Cop” program, kids from Highlands School are taken shopping by Highlands Police officers.

So many Christmas carols, so little time. As guests worked their way through the Summit Charter School Festival of Trees over the weekend the Christmas spirit was almost overwhelming.

The Summit Charter School Foundation will open the 2024 Cashiers Festival of Trees on Friday, Nov. 29 at 370 Mitten Lane in Cashiers. The festive fundraiser – accessible both in-person and online – will run through Saturday, Nov. 30. Doors are open to the public 10 a.m.  to 5 p.m.

The Sky Valley Police Department will be seeing a new chief in town as Tim Wallis was introduced during Tuesday’s special called council meeting. Wallis as well as his wife, Avie, were welcomed guests during the meeting.
