Highlands Cashiers Players putting final touches on next production

The Highlands Cashiers Players will present The Savannah Sipping Society, a comedy by Jones Hope Wooten, Nov. 1 - 3 and Nov. 7 -10 at the Martin Lipscomb Theater inside the Highlands Performing Arts Center.
Actors will portray some of Highlands most famous’ residents throughout history during the “Walk in the Park” presented by the Highlands Historical Society on Oct. 26. Tickets can be purchased online at highlandshistory.com.

Highlands Historical Society to host "Walk in the Park"

The Highlands Historical Society will host its annual Walk in the Park on Saturday, Oct. 26.  Eight “ghosts” will entertain visitors in two separate sessions as local actors, once again,  portray some of Highlands’ most famous past residents.

The Highlands Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated exceptional individuals and organizations at its annual Autumn Ovation event, held in September at The Vineyard at High Holly.

Rabun Gap reports record enrollment

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School has announce that the 2024-2025 school year is off to a historic start with record enrollment numbers. In August, the RGNS campus came alive as 685 students from Pre-K through 12th grade filled the classrooms, marking the highest enrollment in the school’s history.

A spectacular creature has landed at McKinney Meadow on NC107 in Cashiers, a beautiful butterfly with translucent wings that cast a kaleidoscope of blues, purples, and oranges when the sun shines through.

Porchfest to fill Highlands with music at 15 venues

Porchfest is bringing more live music of all kinds back to downtown Highlands for its fourth year Sunday, Sept. 15, with what Center for Life Enrichment Interim Director Audra Bullard said will be more bands and venues than any previous year. “There are more musicians, more venues,” Bullard said.

The bus rolled along a narrow gravelly path on Monte Vista Road in Cashiers and took groups of admiring fans to a large house serving as this year’s Designer’s Showhouse exhibit. People meandered around all day Friday, Aug.

Putting pet safety first

Dr. JoAnne Roesner is bringing back her pet CPR and first aid workshop for its third year on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Scaly Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. Roesner said people should be promptly on time, or else they won’t be able to take the class at all.

The Village Green is in the home stretch of its playground upgrade, and Executive Director Ashlie Mitchell is hoping one last funding push and a call for volunteers will bring the project to fruition ahead of an October start date for construction.
