Summer concert lineups unveiled

Whether you enjoy the fast-paced pickin’ of a banjo, 1980’s pop hits, or the classic rock tunes of the 1960’s, Highlands will be the place to be this summer when the areas two outdoor concerts series get underway for 2024.

Highlands students shine in RGNS musical

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School brought the magic of Disney’s “High School Musical” to the Rearden Stage on February 8-10, wowing audiences with an outstanding performance full of catchy songs, dynamic dance numbers, and a heartwarming message for all ages.

Outhouse aces return to Sapphire

The Travis-Taylor NFL season has ended, and the Plateau is ready for a different sort of sport. The 17th Annual Great Sapphire Outhouse Race launches Saturday at 3. Check in is at 1:30 p.m., judging is at 2 p.m., the static outhouse parade is at 2:30 p.m., and the races follow.

A presentation turned into a surprise midday Tuesday as State Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt presented Macon County and Macon County Schools with a grant for $62 million to build a new Franklin High School.

Otto couple visits every National Park

An Otto couple has wrapped up a journey that started 11 years ago when they set a goal to visit all the National Parks. Steve Sweimler achieved that milestone when they visited American Samoa in October. Janet still has one park left to visit – Petrified Forest in Arizona.

Highlands-Cashiers Players has announced their first full season since the Covid-19 pandemic, proving once more that community theatre is alive and thriving. While Highlands-Cashiers Players had successful shows this year, they want the community to get excited for 2024.
