A large crowd packed Highlands Veterans’ Plaza on Monday for American Legion Post 370’s annual Memorial Day observance. Following a year with few public gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the public showed its support for America’s war dead en force.

A recent bear encounter left a Highlands resident shaken and a pet seriously injured, according to Highlands Police Department reports. On Friday morning, HPD officer Leah McCall responded to the incident on Big Bear Pen Road near the water tower following a call from the resident.

The Highlands Chamber of Commerce recently unveiled the third quarter recipients of the Highlands Chamber of Commerce Visit Highlands, NC Grants. Each year Visit Highlands, NC supports local nonprofits through our Tourism Grant program and sponsorships.
