William Michael Shoptaw, 43, of Madison, Georgia, passed away suddenly from a cardiac event following surgery on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Michael was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Bill and Wyn Shoptaw on Feb. 24, 1977.

Annie Laurie “Morris” McDaniel, 94, of Highlands passed away Friday, April 03, 2020.  A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family ask memorials be made to the Highlands Food Pantry, 328 South Street Highlands, NC 28741.

Mary L. "Pixie" Dearing O'Brien

Mary L. “Pixie” Dearing O’Brien, a treasured member of the Highlands community, passed away peacefully at her home on March 25, 2020, with her high school sweetheart, Charlie Berg, by her side. She was 73. Pixie was born to Malvina and Gust Dearing in Jamestown, New York, on February 13, 1947.

Betty Stockton Kizer

Betty Stockton Kizer of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2020, at age 87. She was born in Augusta, Georgia, on September 18, 1932, the daughter of Joseph “Hal” and Rosamond Stockton. She graduated from Tubman High School in Augusta and received a B.S.

Ann Marie Jacob

Ann Marie Jacob, 87, of Atlanta, died peacefully at home, of congestive heart failure, Wednesday, March 25, 2020.  Ann was born in New York, NY, a city with which she shared a fresh exuberance, on July 15, 1932.

Hillrie Marshall Quin Jr.

Hillrie Marshall Quin Jr., age 76, passed away at home on March 12, 2020. Hillrie was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Vera Wilson Quin and Hillrie Marshall Quin. Hillrie grew up on Army bases in Texarkana, Atlanta, Okinawa, Arlington and Petersburg, Virginia, and Germany.

Wiley Sloan

With energy and passion for servant leadership, steeped by an extra helping of creativity, all those who interacted with Wiley Sloan benefitted from his talents, generosity and gregarious humor.  Wiley, and his twin brother, Walter, were born in Nashville, TN and grew up in Fayetteville, TN.

Cecil Guy Turner

Cecil Guy Turner, 78, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on March 5, 2020. He was born March 15, 1941 in Greenville, Tennessee, the son of the late Lencil and Ruby Morgan Turner. Cecil worked in the medical field for 44 years; he was a very familiar face at Ridge Crest Hospital for many years.
