Western Carolina University’s Dr. Christopher Cooper explained that the Supreme Court’s decision for delaying the primary election has everything to do with how the lines were drawn during redistricting. “The maps were passed, and our Governor does not have veto power over maps,” Cooper said.
The question of where the line between the two counties sits first arose in 2013 when it was observed that the boundary had shifted as a result of development on the ridge of the mountain. That caused ambiguity as to which county some homes and properties should be taxed in.

After eight years, Jackson County has an answer to a boundary dispute with Macon County. The state has rendered a final decision on where the line lies and how much tax revenue each county stands to gain or lose.

More than a dozen former members of Wade Hampton Golf Club filed a federal lawsuit this month, suing the club for just under $700,000, which they say is being improperly denied in a case involving a 2017 renovations project. The suit was filed on Nov. 5 in the U.S. District Court in Asheville.
