Bob Jones Tourney raises $250K for HCHF

The 39th Bob Jones Invitational Golf Tournament was held Aug. 5-7,  at Highlands Country Club. The tournament is named after the legendary Bobby Jones and features Walker Cup players from the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland.

With Halloween right around the corner, the Center for Life Enrichment is bringing an expert in all things haunted from Ghost Hunters of Asheville to give a presentation on ghosts, orbs, spirits and demons.

Retired attorney turned author to visit the Plateau after releasing debut novel

After 14 years of researching, Michael Almond has released his debut novel, The Tannery, set in Wilkes County, N.C. Born and reared in Pilot Mountain, N.C., Almond came of age during the Civil Rights upheavals of 1960.

Wildcat Cliffs celebrates 60 years

In 1961, Wildcat Cliff’s Country Club was founded; now 60 years later, it is still known by its members for its “Wildcat Way.” Former president Geoff Nixon said the Wildcat Way are the core values that keep Wildcat Cliffs the most unique country club on the plateau.

Highlands on the Half-Shell set for this weekend

One of the biggest fundraising events for the Highlands Biological Foundation, Highlands on the Half-Shell, is set for this weekend. The annual fall festival is back after a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The event began in 2014, when board members decided to start a new, fun event.
Highlands’ parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Cashiers parade will start at 3 p.m., both on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Highlands, Cashiers Christmas Parades to be on same day

In the spirit of community, the Cashiers Christmas Parade and the Highlands Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will be held on the same day. Highlands’ parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Cashiers parade will start at 3 p.m., both on Saturday, Dec. 4.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, from 11:30 a.m., to 1:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands, 471 Main Street.

2021 Empty Bowls Fundraiser set for this weekend

The Highlands Food Pantry’s largest fundraising event, Empty Bowls, is scheduled for this weekend. Food Pantry director Bonnie Dayton said that money from the event is used to supply the pantry for the year.

Fly Fishing Festival set for this weekend

The Three River Fly Fishing Festival and Tournament is celebrating its 10th Anniversary September 23-25 in Highlands. The group anticipates this event to raise more funds than ever before for the Town of Highlands Scholarship Fund - approaching $100,000 in total over the years.

Self announces retirement from Village Green

After nine years as the executive director of the the Village Green, Ann Self has announced her plans to retire from her post this winter. Some might say it’s the end of an era, but Self says this is just the beginning.
